Does Cruelty Free Beauty Cost More?

The question that I think everyone on their cruelty free journey considers at the beginning: does cruelty free beauty cost more? The answer: no. It does not cost more to go cruelty free.

There are some great affordable cruelty free beauty brands both at the pharmacy and in stores like Mecca and Sephora, from NYX to Bare Minerals to Essence to Tarte to the Body Shop to Lush to Physicians Formula. It depends on what you are looking for and the quality you are wanting. For foundation I personally would pay more and get a great foundation from Bare Minerals or IT Cosmetics (which are still mid range brands). However for some other products you can still get great quality for a cheaper prince for example, Physicians Formula have become famous for their Butter Bronzer which is a great bronzer and Essence have some great mascaras and lipsticks.

I personally think there are some great affordable cruelty free beauty brands out there. It shows you don’t have to pay more to follow your moral compass and not buy from companies that test on animals. To be sure, there are definitely some affordable companies that do test on animals like Revlon and Maybelline. But smaller – albeit just as good – and cruelty free brands are becoming more popular.

So why do companies still test on animals if other companies don’t test and can still be affordable? And this is the big question. It’s mainly down to laws in China requiring imported cosmetics to be tested on animals. Although there are small but positive signs China is trying alternative methods of testing which other countries and companies are already using.

Buying cruelty free does not cost more, so what are you waiting for?! I challenge you, next time you want/need a new beauty product, to go check out your local pharmacy for an affordable, cruelty free product. I think you may be pleasantly surprised.

I did a post a while ago on my favourite cruelty free brands from Priceline which I will link here. Let me know if you want me to do an updated one with some of my favourite products. Thanks so much for reading.
